Winds of War is 'dated' in some respects

I'm half way through watching Winds of War (DVDs). First time I've seen it since it first aired in 1983. I find myself being reminded what a masterpiece this film was and continues to be. However, in some respects, it seems a little dated.

You may ask "how can a period piece be dated?" Well, it's subtle. Some of the transitions between scenes, the narration, and other minor things, remind me this is the way they made films in the 80's.

Other than these small annoyances, it remains one of the best things ever made for any screen.

Not to mention the font used when the movie says a location/date(ie, Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941)...notice the font was used in several TV shows of that period like the A-Team and Knight Rider.

One thing that is dates is the Boat scenes. Its obviously minuture models that would have looked better if not for HD.

Just remember, that was state of the art special effects for TV at that time..lol

HD nothing. I watched the VHS a year or so before I purchased the DVD and it still looked like miniatures. But I'm fine with that because the technology wasn't there yet.

Dated? Yeah it seems they didn't have access to a time machine so they would know to shoot in widescreen, HD and use the same techniques that Michael Bay does.
