I thought for a minute George and Katherine were not listed. They are.

Yes and they are actually married in real life as well! I just thought that I would share that with you.

Not only were they married, Alex Karras (George) really did play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, although the show takes place in Chicago and I think the character supposedly played for NFC North rival Bears - which I find weird.

Originally the show was just about the couple, after all they pitched the show and sold it to the station. If I remember reading correctly, it was called "Another Ballgame" which is the name of the first episode. ABC stepped in at the last minute and decided they wanted to make a Diff'rent Strokes clone and brought in Emmanuel Lewis who later gained partial creative control as a producer - ouch!

"Sorry folks, you had a nice little idea and all, but we're going to make the show focus on the kid. Oh, and we're making him a producer too with creative control so good luck working with a 12 year old."

Yeah, I'm sure everyone got along and there was no conflicts on set...

Yes I remember when Alex Karras played in the NFL because if you watch the old classic show of The Odd Couple Oscar Madison does a interview with Alex Karras in an episode. Yes that is weird and I wonder why Mr. Karras did not want to make the show in Detriot since he did play for the Lions.

That is very interesting to hear about and I did not even know this at all. I was like 11 years old when this show came out in 1983 and was a fan of it because this was one of the shows that my sister and I loved to watch when it was on ABC back in the day. I did not know that it was under a different name. Well NBC had Diff'erent Strokes back during the late 70's and early 80's. It was not until like around the mid to late 80's when ABC finally got the rights to air Diff'erent Strokes. NBC like ABC or their competitor loves to have a show for so many years and then when they decide to move on with the show to get rid of it to bring in other new shows they sell it to their competitor which I always find very strange because once it switches to another major network it gets revamped or changed. I have seen it happen with several shows that were on NBC and moved to CBS. I can name a couple of the shows like Unsolved Mysteries and a TV show that started with Valerie Harper and was known as Valerie which later switched to Hogans and then called finally The Hogan Family. This even happened to a couple of ABC's hit TGIF shows like Step By Step and Family Matters. Once they moved to CBS then that is when they tweaked the show a little bit to make it a little different even though it had the same formula as before. When they would always switch from one network to the next network and placed on a different time slot I would forget about the TV show and not even tune in to watch it anymore because they are putting it up agains another TV show that I might enjoy watching on another channel instead. That does not sound good when Emmanuele Lewis gained control of the show.

Well he was pretty popular at that time in the early 80's anyways and once Webster got canceled we no longer saw him doing much of anything anymore. He was able to retire with his riches if he did not make foolish mistakes in spending his money like other childhood actors have done when they were on top.

Oh I am sure there were some conflicts all right that we do not know about unless E! True Hollywood Stories wanted to do a special on it which they are long past the 80's now and we will never see a special like that done.

That was Gary Coleman from Diff'rent Strokes, not Emmanuel Lewis from Webster.
