I vividly remember seeing an episode of Webster where he finds a new passageway inside the house. It leads to a strange room with an old lady in a rocking chair, rocking slowly back and forth. It turns out to be a giant doll. I want to say it turned out that the former owner of the house, who built the secret passageways, built a shrine to his dead daughter. Please, someone say this episode really happened and it's not just me making something up? That image of a doll rocking in a secret room scarred me for life!
I think the one where Webster started a fire that destroyed their apartment was the scariest. I had fears of my house burning down as a kid after seeing that and sure enough 2 years ago, an arsonist started a fire that burned down my apartment. I can now relate to that episode. Looking back, it was a rather extreme thing to do on a sitcom, but then, too, each show had some kind of moral. Obviously this one dealt with kids not playing with matches. I recently watched this episode and it brought back scary memories. I always wondered how they trashed the set of the apartment like that. Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing they actually did burn it up, but made sure the fire was under control. The aftermath of the fire did look rather realistic. Ah, the art of special effects.
Yeah I remember that episode too. Yet another episode of this show that kept a four year old little me shaking in terror. This show was freakin' insane.
Augh, the fire episode. Even as a small child, I was never moved by those over-emotional stories in an otherwise comical show. I just remember Webster calling his mementos in a box "men's toes." That always annoyed me.
Don't forget the episode where Webster and George Papadapolis wake up in an old bathroom with their legs chained to the wall. All they were left with were hacksaws, but the hacksaw aren't meant for them to cut through their chains with. Scary stuff.
Webster and his family moved into a house with another married couple who had a daughter that ran away from home at a young age. Her father had created the secret passageways for her to play in as a child and Webster discovered them and found the daughter's bedroom. Ther was a rocking chair facing the window and her doll was sitting in the chair. Her parents left her room the way it was in case she ever returned home. She ended up coming back at some point. It was one of the show's better storylines.
It's weird i came to this page for this same reason. I couldnt remember if that was a real ep. of if i just dreamed it or something. I remember it was really creepy. I was very scared by it as a little kid. the sad thing is, is that ep. is to this day, the most scared i have ever been, more so than any horror movie or anything, and it's just funny that it came from an old sit-com from the 80's.
I could have sworn I made a comment to this topic before but it isn't here. Anyways, I remember that episode with the rocking chair and that crap scared the hell out of me. I was about 5 or 6 when I saw that and I never forgot it. I am not sure but I do know Heather O'Rourke, the blonde little girl from Poltergeist was in this show once in a while. Was she the one in that particular episode? I can't remember anymore. It's been so long since I've seen this show. Webster was a creepy little dude, his show was just as bad. Funny how certain things never leave your memory!

So weird - I don't know how I ended up at this post but yes I remember that episode. Yet I hardly remember anything else about this show at all (What little I do remember of Webster/Jeffersons and Diff'rent Strokes are all rolled up into one vague memory for me).
But I do remember seeing that doll - HOLY MOLY that was freaky.
What's even freakier is my first and middle names result in "Drew-J" also! Maybe I started this post without even knowing it?!? I'm getting freaked out. How did I get here?
I don't remember this episode in particular, but I always thought it was a little bothersome that Webster referred to his parents as "Ma'am" and "George." I know he was adopted and he was adopted at an age plenty old enough to remember his biological parents, but I thought it was so sad that he couldn't call his new mom and dad "mom" and "dad." I have three kids, two of which are adopted, and it would break my heart if they referred to me by my first name!
He actauly explained this in an early episode George was his Godfather and it would be weird t call him Dad especialy since he had known him before his parents died. His Dad and George were best friends that had played football together. And George's wife was called Mamm by Webster because Webster felt close enouth w/ her that she was like a Mom to him but not his Mom so he called her Mamm.
Also her hair was short and she always seemed like a military woman and she was all stuck up so he called her Mamm
