DID DANIEL AND ELEANOR REALIZE THAT THE VISITORS WERE LIZARDS?

When Julie "outed" the Visitors as being lizards at the L.A. Medical Center on international TV by ripping off John's human face, Eleanor said "Its just a trick". Do you think by the end that Daniel and Eleanor realized that the Visitors were lizards, or at the very least, suspected that they were? And if not, if they did would that affect their allegiance to them?

reply

Eleanor...this is a woman who decided to side with the enemy even after:

1. her own son was "on the run" from them
2. her grandson was captured & held prisoner
3. her husband walked out on her because of points 1 & 2

She only switched allegiances when she realised she could be killed by the Resistance in the Final Battle. The irony was that it was a Visitor who shot her in the back.

As for Daniel, he was a social misfit & had few friends. Being part of the Visitors gave him a sense of importance & power. He felt no guilt in helping Julie to be captured or in shooting Ruby.

Both got their comeuppance.

But that doesn't really answer my question. Did they know that the Visitors were lizards?

reply

Well right up until the time Julie ripped John's face off, no one apart from Mike Donovan really knew what they looked like underneath.

The humans that were friendly with the Visitors all seemed to be in denial. Either they were all brainwashed or they really did believe it...but chose not to say anything out of fear.

I think Eleanor seemed brainwashed. Daniel....not so sure. Being friendly with the Visitors gave him a sense of importance. Why should he put in under jeopardy? I think he knew it was true.

harmony mentioned that christine walsh did a feature on tv about it and diana had explained it was all make-up.

It's certainly believable. Remember the visitors overall goal was to find a planet where food & drink was plentiful & ship it all back home.

Now if the visitors introduced themselves as they really were (reptiles), there would have been a war immediately. By staying in their ships for a while & studying the human race they were able to learn a lot more hence why they had "human suits", spoke the appropriate language, & gave each other more recognisable names. By doing this they were able to be accepted far quickly & go about their business in a sneaky way so to speak.

Maybe brainwashing was slightly exaggerated but if the "top brass" believed this strategy would work, then the ordinary visitors are not going to argue, are they?

Sorry about the long message.

in addition (sorry again):

and just by interacting with humans (who they may have been told to be be friendly in order to gain their trust) some were able to see through the lies & realise what they were setting out to do was wrong. result = 5th column.

I would say no! They were too blinded by the Visitors.

One by power and one by greed and being on the winning side in her eyes

I am sure after they were going to be processed and in the end of there life they realized what would happen to them.

Proably but they both got what they deserved didnt they?

reply

I think they were still brainwashed by the lizards and power mad by what they got from them. Of course, in the end, they both got killed and sent to hell.

Daniel and Eleanor weren't brain-washed. Their motivations were made pretty clear:

Eleanor

Went as far as explaining to Mike she is "a survivor" who came from nothing and became the rich wife of a successful millionaire by knowing how to pick the "winner." She thought it was wise to join the Visitors because they were most-likely to win. So she turned her back on humanity in order to be the pet of the Visitors.

Daniel

Was a loser. He is only supposed to be like 21-years old and yet hes a hardcore alcoholic (constantly drinking) and seemingly has no friends, is a virgin, and is so awkward he can't get a girlfriend and is delusional/possessive enough where he uses whatever he can (including blackmail of her family's safety/violence) to try and force Robin to be with him. Hes a weasel, who even sells out his own family.

Basically - he was a nobody, geek that nobody liked and he saw kissing the ass of the Visitors to give him a sense of identity he didn't have. And he clung to that more than anything, even morality. The coward went as far as selling out an innocent family of his best friend and shooting an elderly woman he knew all his life in the back for it.

The poetic justice is both Eleanor and Daniel - for how they turned their back on humanity for the aliens - were both ultimately killed by the Visitors. She took a laser in the back and Daniel was turned into food. I don't think an ass-kisser can get any closer to the ass then when hes being *beep* out.

Wouldn't being intimate with them be the only way you could tell? I mean they'd be cold and clammy inside, like their vaginas and such hey?

reply

I think that there were other signs even if you weren't intimate with them. Like their body temperatures always mirroring room temperature, the way that animals freaked out in their presence, their diet, e.t.c.

reply

Oh for sure...... Mousey mousey haha..
