Was John evil?

I know that he was the commander of the fleet that slowly invaded Earth and so responsible for all the Visitors who murdered innocent people under his command. But it did seem at the end that even he had his limits as he was unwilling to use the Doomsday weapon to destroy Earth and admited defeat unlike the genocidal Diana who was more than willing to blow up Earth out of spite.I wish there had been more focus on John to see if he fully beleaved in what the Visitors planed for Earth and humanity.

So it's treason then!

I kind of liked John and loved the scene were he stood up to Diana at the end of The Final Battle. But he really should have kept a few armed guards with him as it should have been obvious to him that she was going to shoot him in the back especialy after his "Queen of a deserlet relm" speech.

So it's treason then!

Everything the Visitors were doing I suppose could be rationalized as just their species doing what they had to to survive.

Killing an entire planet full of life and resources to satisfy a need for revenge was very different.
