Iola's mother
Anyone else think she was in the wrong for dumping out the chili Iola cooked for the girl scout badge? I wouldn't have let that slide by at all!

I agree! Mrs. Boyland was very disrespectful and unappreciative of Iola. Iola practically put her own life on hold to cater to, and care for her mother. Yet, when Iola was planning to go on a Riverboat cruise with Thelma her mother was against it and kicked Iola out of the house for good (her mother eventually took her back in). Iola should have retired both her parents to a live-in care facility and made a life of her own.
shareYeah her mom was definitely out of line. That's kinda the way it is, though, the child who does the most for the parents is the one who gets treated like crap in many ways, this shows with Mama and Eunice in many ways, esp in the old story, Eunice was the ONLY child who gave Mama the time of day really, but was also the child Mama constantly criticized.
BUT I can understand Iola not wanting her parents in a retirement home, I've seen some of the horrors that go on there, they are over-worked and under-staffed, which can result in BAD living conditions for the elderly ppl.
Good point. Thanks for that.
