Cut Scenes

I have watched all three parts on the German DVD and found the following scenes not included on the VHS released in the US in the late 80s early 90s.

In Part 1....
- Each of the council members are introduced as they leave their homes and businesses to attend the meeting regarding electing a chief.
- When Hoss Spence first arrives after taking over Will's old farm, he tries to buy the horse Apple, but Joshua says the horse has a bad foot, angering Hoss Spence.
- Foxy Funderburke takes a puppy to Chief Lee's home for the children.
- The scene where T.T. Holmes is outfitting Will Henry is extended.
- Will Henry patrols the streets on a Saturday and prevents a confrontation when a young white man flirts with a black girl.
- The scene where FDR visits with Hugh Holmes.
- Foxy sees Will Jr. on the street and asks him how he likes the puppy and offers to take him duck hunting one day.
- An extended scene of Will Henry talking to Foxy on his 2nd visit to his home.
- An extended scene where the grocer catches Joshua Cole with the stolen ham and locks him in the freezer.
- When first visiting Justin County, Will Henry converses with a deputy who says the second murdered boy has been buried all ready.

In Part 2....
- Billy Lee and his new wife are traveling down the road and celebrating their future when the car they are driving gives out.
- Sonny Butts tries to flirt with Ellie Lee when she and Trish go to Foxy's to purchase a puppy.
- Ellie and Trish purchase the gun that they later use when the Klan visits Billy Lee's home. Trish says she is hunting "Yellow bellied white sheets" or something to that effect.
- As Sonny awaits the grand jury's decision in his office, he envisions the parade that will follow after he exposes Foxy Funderburke. He leaves his office and tells the trooper to pass on to "His majesty Hugh Holmes" that he wants a parade.

In Part 3...
-Tyler Watts and his wife purchase a home from Hugh Holmes and discuss having their own place. Tyler is en route to purchase paint for it when Murray stops him in town and brings him in.
-Pieback, the old town drunk, recognizes Tyler as Joshua Cole when they bring him in.
- The scene where Murray and Tyler Watts are traveling down the road is extended. In the VHS, it picks up where they see the smoke ahead, but on the extended version, Tyler is commending Murray on the weight he has lost thus far.
-Billy Lee and Hugh Holmes walk around the town square discussing Tyler's relationship to his "Aunt Nellie" who the viewers know to be his mother.
-There is additional news footage of Billy Lee's appointing Tyler as chief and he and Hugh Holmes discussing how such an act would seldom get such attention in the media. Later, there is news footage regarding Tyler's harrassing Hoss Spence and Foxy Funderburke whom the report identifies as elderly white citizens of the town. In this same footage is Skeeter Willis saying his department won't be bullied by civil rights activists or something to that effect. What is important in this scene is that Skeeter Willis remains sheriff even after the Tyler Watts incident.
- Some of Billy Lee's campaigning is shown as he flies to another part of the state and convinces a member of the house to vote for him. Also, he and the NY Times reporter visit the Mainbridge County jail to see the conditions there. This infuriates Skeeter Willis.
-Finally, the election itself is a bit more complex as the opponent we see in the shortened version was actually Billy's opponent in the primary. He runs as an independent after Billy wins the primary causing a three way split with the Republican candidate and therefore the state senate will pick the governor.

These are all the scenes I recall at this time. Truth be told, they did not add much to the film for me, aside from maybe Foxy giving the kids the puppy, resulting in him being less "odd" in the eyes of others, but even more evil in the eyes of the audience when the truth comes out.

I would've like to see all the people who were putting down Tyler about Foxy, reactions when they find out FT was indeed a killer.
