'Chiefs' - DVD Box Set Release in Germany

The last years I always searched for an german VHS copy to buy of the excellent mini-series "Chiefs", which I rented before from my video store. Unfortunately I waited to long to buy it.
Now I have finally found out that this outstanding series will be released in Germany as an 4-Set DVD Box Deluxe Edition, including the original 3-part Miniseries in German plus the English cutted version and a booklet. There also some extras planned.
The release was announced for the 25. August 2005, but was shifted back to the 23. September 2005. Eager to get this series on DVD, I have pre-ordered this at a very good german online-shop for dvds to get them, when it will be really released.
Hope to get this brilliant piece soon!!!!

How's that box-set? Can you tell me what studio or company released the DVD set? It may be possible that same studio will release it in the states.

Hi,
sorry for my delay in answering your post, but your messages didn't reach me.
This box set was release by a little German DVD company called Labyrinth Entertainment.
But you can order it through good online sellers like www.jpc.de and www.amazon.de which both ship also international.
The English language track on this DVD Box was take from an old VHS release, so it may be not always without little bloopers and suffers a little bit in quality.
I don't think this will be released in the states.

I just got a copy on eBay. There is a woman in Colorado who has many sealed (factory) DVD copies. There are also some on there from the United Kingdom and Canada, very reasonably priced. :) Hope that helps.

Did you purchase the German 4 disc deluxe set?
If so, from where (in the U.S)?
What are the details of the set? Is it in English?
What is the full running time?

Hi,
I am myself own this 4 disc deluxe set, but I am from Germany.
The set is with English language too, but this was derived from an old VHS copy,
so that there maybe bloopers and suffers a little bit in quality.
The full running time is 283 Min. for the three parts and 207 Min. for the international edition. This set includes both editions.
You can get this set at good german online stores, who are also shipping international, such as www.jpc.de and www.amazon.de.

hello,
I am from California and wondered how good or bad the video quality is on the 283 minute version of chiefs. Is it still watchable?

Is the audio in english also and still understandable and inteligible?

I know it is in PAL version but as long as it can be played on a computer I can see it.

This will be in PAL format....not NTSC.

Not sure I'm getting this. The international cut, is that the only version on this set that has English audio? Is the longer cut ONLY in German?

this DVD Box Set was released by a small German DVD company.
But you can order this set at two very good german online stores, which both ship also international:
www.jpc.de and www.amazon.de

WATCH OUT FOR THIS SCAM!!!! Actually, I ordered the supposed 4-Disc set from Germany and it's a piece of cr*p. It's somebody's home brew, with terrible garbled audio and very poor video. The US VHS version even is actually better. And it's not really a 4-disc set even. It's got 2 versions, the supposed "full" with the defects noted above, and an "International" version that is just the edited version available here. Plus it's in PAL format, and won't play on American DVD players. RUN AWAY FROM THIS TURKEY!!!

Does this PAL version play on your computer?

Were you able to watch the DVD on your computer since you can not see it on a DVD player?

If it does, there are programs that can convert the PAL version to an NTSC version so that you can play it on your DVD player.

You may even be able to improve the audio.

I did this with "The Castaway Cowboy" dvd. It was my first time doing this and it worked out well on my DVD player.

I actually got the free demo version of the application on the internet and it didn't put any logo on the film. The only thing is that you don't get to use the menu of the DVD.

Maybe that would help.

I'm very curious to see the Chief movie again but in full 283 minute version.

Actually, it WILL play on american dvd players, you only need to have a multinorm-player or be able to set your player to region free.

And of course it's a 4 dvd-set, disc 1-3 containing each one part of the (uncut) miniseries, while disc 4 contains the international cut. Whereas the uncut version has always been shown on german television, it was only broadcast once in the US, and since there was no original language master of this version left, they had to lift the audio off an old vhs-recording of said broadcast. It's the only available version of the uncut mini-series worldwide, so you probably won't find a better version anytime soon...

As was stated in earlier posts the German dvd has pretty good picture quality but the audio is awful, a lot of the time you cannot make out what's being said.

i would advise against buying it.

I would advise people to buy it despite the bad sound at times. With enough volume it won't cause big problems, and it's still the only complete version available.
