UGH! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

When the heck is this incredible miniseries coming (offically) on DVD? I'm tired of seeing crap TV shows and movies make it to DVD but not this! At least let it be shown on TV somewhere...Hallmark or TV Land or something!

Here's what I want from the DVD when it comes out:

1) The full length miniseries. No cuts.

2) A box set of at least 3 discs for each episode. Maybe even a fourth for special features (like why the heck it took so long to put it on DVD).

3) A really nice DVD case. And no cheesy picture of Charlton Heston with a gun...or pics of other actors. I'd love to see a cover with just the images of three police shields (like in the opening). Perhaps the names of the actors playing each chief over the shields (Wayne Rogers, Brad Davis, Billy Dee Williams), with Charlton Heston's name centered below.

4) In other words, I'd like to see CHIEFS done with the same treatment as the SHOGUN box set. A really nice box set, with excellent video transfer, maybe digitally enhanced.

I don't think these things are too much to ask for fans who have been waiting TOO LONG for this incredible miniseries.

Well, I think I've done all I can over the years to get this on DVD:

1) I contacted Anchor Bay a year ago (I forget why...I think they released some form of CHIEFS at some point in time).

2) I contacted the producer/director Jerry London. He told me he had no idea who owned the rights to the film.

3) This year I contacted Paramount Home Entertainment to see if they can release the film on DVD (as they released London's prior miniseries SHOGUN).

4) I contacted Stuart Woods, who wrote CHIEFS, and he just told me "you never know about the DVD" (which I appreciate his writing back).

5) I even contacted Criterion Films (they have an email address for recommending films they can release on DVD). I don't think they've ever released a TV production on DVD but I thought it wouldn't hurt to recommend they release CHIEFS.

Finally, I sent a written letter to Turner Broadcasting Corp, Inc. CHIEFS is a southern drama set in Georgia. Ted Turner is Georgian and appreciates southern films. And the last time I ever saw CHIEFS on TV was on TBS years ago. So I thought I'd give it a shot.

As it is, I purchased the complete set of CHIEFS from a dealer who was able to transfer it from the German copy. So it'll tide me over. But make no mistake, it needs to get a proper US release with restored/remastered video and audio quality. And I'll be one of the first in line when that happens.

I'm in Australia, and bought the DVD a little while ago.

Search for "chiefs movie" on Google or eBay and you should be able to find a copy.

reply

I was able to find the complete miniseries on something similar to ebay. It'll do for now, but truthfully it's a copy of the German original DVD release. The video quality is okay, but the audio is sub par.

The problem is CHIEFS has not yet received a proper DVD release (uncut, with decent video/audio quality) here in the U.S.

Okay, everyone lets keeping making some noise, this film on DVD and has to get U.S. distribution, like the last thread said, how can all these other stupid ass shows go on DVD, this film is a classic...what the *beep* is the hold up!!.. Lets get on with it people!

YouTube - no cuts no commercials nothing but full mini series

reply

If you're talking about the two downloads that are 3 hrs 26 minutes 21 seconds in length, or the download that is broken into 5 parts, that is not the entire uncut mini series. It is a download of the same version that was available on VHS, and (crappy quality) DVD, with much of the second part (Sonny Butts episode) edited out.

The mini series uncut would be 4 hours and 43 minutes long.

reply

There is a full uncut version on YouTube now. Not the chop up from the VHS tape. You can tell because it includes the scene where Sonny attacked the two girls at the pool.
