Robin Williams' best work?
This was Robin Williams' first film, to my knowledge. And in my opinion, his best. Anyone agree? And are there any other films like this one out there?

sharePopeye was his first film. Though Williams is great here, his work in Moscow on the Hudson, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poet Society, The Fisher King, and Good Will Hunting is equally good if not better.
shareHis first film was "Popeye" in 1980 but that barely counts...lol.
I do have to say that I think this is definitely his best movie. It's also one of my favorites, so I'd be lying if I said that I'm not a teensy bit biased.
Other good Robin Williams films are "The Fisher King", my husband's favorite. He's also great in "Good Will Hunting" and "What Dreams May Come". Not to say that he's not the funniest man in the world, but he does drama so well I wish he would just do it a little more often.
"Garp" was a great film and Robin Williams was excellent in it, but I think "Good Morning Vietnam" should be praised as his greatest performance. You put anybody, and I mean anybody else in that role and they'll never live up to what Williams brought to that character.

Yep. His best work. Or maybe his best-written character? Either way, I love him in it.
Fisher King, Good Will Hunting, Good Morning Vietnam, World According To Garp, The Birdcage, Aladdin(voice), Patch Adams, Awakenings, Dead Poets Society,Mrs. Doubtfire, and of course Mork and Mindy from T.V., and he helped start Comic Relief.
Pick a favorite. Dang, I'm just not sure if I can actually do that. Each of these movies have been so good, each in their own way. There are only a few actors that can succeed so well in staring in literally dozens of movies, and an unforgetable television series.
Of course you can't forget his stand-up comedy either. I think that he's one of the funniest comedians of all time. He was on Inside the Actors Studio and was a riot a minute. He took a scarf and did 5 minutes on it totally inpromptu. He's able to take any object, idea, subject, word, or thought and come up with rapid fire comedic responces at will. LIke in his latest on stage performance a water bottle made up a good 15 minutes of hysterical action.
One of the greatest talents out there. Can't pick one sorry.
i just started watching some of his older stuff and so far my top to favorites are
1. Dead Poets Society
2. Life According to Garp
This was not his first film, His first film was a little seen comedy called CAN I DO IT TIL I NEED GLASSES? I do think Williams' performance in GARP ranks among his very best, along with MOSCOW ON HE HUDSON, GOOD WILL HUNTING, and ONE HOUR PHOTO.

You guys are forgetting my personal favorite, "The Best of Times." (I realize I am in the minority.) He was excellent in almost everything he did throughout the 1980s - and "The Fisher King" in the early '90s - but "Garp" will almost have a special place in my heart. I think it's because of the summer of 1985, a portion of which we spent with my cousins in Phoenix. They had HBO and it seemed like "Garp" was played at least three times a day.
