Animal Abuse?
Does anyone know if they put that poor dog thru any pain? I wanted to kill that director after seeing that dead dog at the end. if that was "dog acting" the White dog should have been given the Golden bone award! hahhaha

shareExtras on DVD talk about the training the dog went through by a noted hollywood trainer. Personally, I thought even the dog's performance was forced
shareIt's actually five dogs. Not one.
"Ça va by me, madame...Ça va by me!" - The Red Shoes
The end scene looked pretty real, they oviously drugged the dog to get him to play dead like that. I know there were 5 dogs, I watched the extras. I know they said they were careful against animal abuse, but when I saw the last scene with the dying hound, I got pretty mad at the film makers in general.

How self-calling animal-rights obsessives can be so petty is beyond me!!! This is a feature film, they didn't kill or hurt the dog. No more than human beings aren't killed or hurt for a feature film.
In short, GROW UP
"Ça va by me, madame...Ça va by me!" - The Red Shoes
artihcus, you need to grow up yourself. If you think just because an animal is in a "feature film" it's immune to cruelty, you're even more ignorant than you show just in your message. Jackass.
shareread the credits
"Animal action was supervised by the American Humane Association"
It says at the end of the credits that it was supervised by Human society or something like that.
shareIf you watch the special features on the criterion dvd, the dog trainer repeatedly notes that director Sam Fuller took the safety and well being of the animal actors very seriously, making sure they were always treated in the utmost humane ways. They split the dogs work schedule between fives animals, two principal (acting) dogs and three stunt dogs. All of them receive screen credits. They were trained to do things like sleep and play dead, if you read the very lengthy personal notes of the trainer it goes into detail to explain how many of these effects were achieved.

I'm sure the animals were not hit or anything like that, but there were several shots of an obviously drugged dog. Can't think of any movies where a human was drugged to the point where their tongue was in the dirt. At least not voluntarily... ---It wants no straps. - Karlhttp://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000024/nest/158601447
