Why no Oscar nomination for Best Song?

I know V/V won the Oscar for Best Score, but not one of its songs received a Best Song nomination. (The nominees can be found here on IMDB.) Anyone got an opinion on why?

They were a bit rubbish, and totally unmemorable.
