1995 comparison

I'd seen the stage play recorded in the 1995 release, and although Andrews certainly looks younger here and her voice is intact, I actually thought the later version was far better.

Most of the really funny parts were missing from the movie (I don't know if they were written later or cut from the film), such as Norma's "Paris Makes Me Horny" musical number and the bit near the end when Sal's guys and Norma get into an argument about grammar.

On the whole, I didn't think either version was anything great. The songs were forgettable and there's not enough to the story to maintain a feature. There are a few moments that are really funny, but not enough.

Given how much fun the character of Norma is, I'd really rather have seen a story about her and King, rather than this one. I admire Andrews as much as the next guy, but let's face it, she's just not suited to playing the bawdy, sexy sort.

"I'm the weenie King, invented the Texas weenie. Lay off 'em, you'll live longer."

I think you missed the focal point of the film, utterly.
