best song?
Ok....what's your favorite song in the show? For my money, it's "Le Jazz Hot". It's truly a show stopper, and one of the best songs Henry Mancini ever wrote. Ok, fans....weigh in and tell me what you think.

shareIt's hard to pick just one, but mine is also Le Jazz Hot - the way Julie Andrews executes that two octave slide at the end of it is just amazing. However, let's not forget that Crazy World is wonderfully touching, You and Me is a delightful depiction of a really close friendship (or possibly more), and The Shady Dame of Seville is hilarious - in both versions!

---but I also like "When they say Hey I'm from shy!" too! ---
you mean "When they say Hey I'm from CHI!" - right? I'd hate to think you were mis-hearing the topic of the song. It's too funny a scene.
"Le Jazz Hot" is definitely my favorite song in the movie (although, I don't think there's a bad one in the bunch). It's something a little different than what you usually hear from Ms. Andrews and she does an incredible job with the song! It's often on repeat on my iPod!
shareWow, hard to pick !!
"Le Jazz Hot" probably makes the strongest impression, and with good reason -- it's a cracker of a song. I also really like "Crazy World" and "You and Me". But most of the songs score distinct hits in their own way and style.
"Chicago Illinois" is peppy, but mostly due to Leslie Anne Warren's performance. It doesn't really score "classic" status.
The one song that I really don't warm to is "The Shady Dame from Seville". It just seems to be too self-consciously manufactured for my tastes, and for me never gets to be engaging.
it's got to be "Crazy World"
shareAnother vote for "Le Jazz Hot."
shareoh goodness Crazy World is amazing.
you have to really listen to the CD version really loud with headphones or something, you hear every breath Julie takes and you can really feel the song, so deep. with those lyrics is somehow comforting.
i like Le Jazz Hot, but i think..
1.Crazy World
2.Elegant (instrumental)
3.Living in the Shadows (stage)
3.Cherry Ripe (full version)
4.Chicago, Illinois
5.Louis Says (Stage)
"Crazy World" is such a beautiful song. It boggles my mind that none of the songs from the film were nominated for an Oscar for Best Song. To me, "Crazy World" should have been nominated and should have won!
shareAbsolutely! "Crazy World" is quite simply a nearly perfect melding of poetic verse and music. All the songs in this film are memorable. Henry Mancini had pretty much run out of steam and not done much film music (with the exception of Blake Edwards's movies) but for V/V he hit all the right marks and the arrangements of the songs (there are several for each one) are all interesting, artistic, and suit the movie perfectly.
"Crazy World" melts me every time I see this movie, and the way it is filmed (entirely in one take as the camera rotates around Julie Andrews) is glorious to watch.
V/V is without a doubt one of my top 10 favorite films.
It should have taken all 5 spots at the Oscars in the "Best ORiginal Song" category for
"Le Jazz Hot"
"Chicago, Illinois"
"Gay Paree"
"You and Me" ***
"Crazy World"
...
Without a doupt...Le Jazz Hot!
shareCrazy World is very beautiful and touching, but my favourite is the show stopper that is Le Jazz Hot. I also think Julie Andrews sings beautifully in the entire movie, and I loved how she executed that two-octave slide, that's not easy to do but she cleverly makes it so.
"Life after death is as improbable as sex after marriage"- Madeline Kahn(CLUE, 1985)
Le Jazz Hot.
shareGay Paree. I just love the way Robert Preston sings it.
