Am I the only one who cries at the end?

This is one of my favorite films and the end always gets me choked up. Especially when Jessica Lange says "I miss Dorothy". It just gets me because to her, and her father as well, she was such a real person that they both loved and you can feel both their loss and pan of losing this person in their lives.
I know it's billed as a comedy, but it's also quite a powerful drama too. Thankfully it ends happily for everyone, but whenever I watch this I have to keep tissues close by!...And the theme song is just perfect.

At the theater I cried during that scene, yes and it still chokes me up now during that moment.

"It might be you," is a pretty song and it got a lot of airplay back then. The rest of the music in the movie is a little bit schmaltzy and one of the movie's only weaknesses.

I watch this at least once a year and that last scene always gets to me. This is one of those rare films I can never tire of revisiting.

I was just 12 when I saw it originally in the theater in 1982 and remember the theme song being all over the radio then. Just like the movie, the song is a timeless classic too.

Yes, I thought that was rather brilliant and took the film beyond mere comedy. I never thought about it, but of course, to Julie it would seem that Dorothy had died, basically. But in their conversation, she realizes that Dorothy can live again, in a slightly different way. So it's a resurrection. What a glorious scene!

I imagine this sort of thing happened quite often with online dating in the late 90’s to early 00’s where people formed preconceptions that turned out to be inaccurate.

I knew a few people who were disappointed that way, even when neither side was “catfishing” or being deceptive.

The person you thought you knew never really existed.

At least Dorothy was real enough that Julie could borrow that little yellow Halston outfit (if she promises not to ruin it).

I rolled my eyes myself, but forgave the movie for the ridiculous romantic ending because of all the laughs that came before.

I don't consider it to be a happy ending, if getting to the final embrace requires someone to be an idiot and/or a doormat.
