Best Dario Argento film?

I saw Deep red, orpera and suspiria all on the same day last week and I thought they were nowhere near as good as Tenebrae. Tenebrae had a lot more gore and nudity. And one more thought, how could so much blood come out of an arm when chopped off? What was the make-up artist thining?

If Nudity is what you take into consideration for quality, I'd suggest you rent something from the adult section. Best movie you'll ever see.

Simple, it's Argento's movie. :)

this one is pretty good, one of faves by him! but i perfer Suspiria, such vivid colors, amazing and strange score.

Tenebre wins in the murder mystery department
Suspiria wins in the supernatral/occult department

All of Dario's work has something different to offer.!!!

I've seen almost all of his films (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage,Cat 'O Nine Tails, Deep Red, Suspiria, Inferno, Tenebre, Phenomena, and Opera)and I enjoyed each one for many different reasons. But as far as complete edge of my seat viewing goes "Deep Red" and "Tenebre" are my absolute favorites.

WOE BE UNTO HIM WHO OPENS ONE OF THE SEVEN GATEWAYS TO HELL

The question is "What was Argento thinking?" And we know the answer because he told us in the laserdisc commentary (latter re-issued on DVD):

"She's painting."

It's like she's improvising a Jackson Pollack masterpiece right in front of out eyes. It's a visual metaphor for what Argento is doing - creating art with lots of blood.

suspiria is the best argento film hands down...and quite possibly one of the best horror films of all time!!!!

It would go like this for me.

1. Tenebre
2. Deep Red
3. Opera
4. Inferno
5. Suspiria

I just happen to think, however, Suspiria is one of the most overrated
films of all time. Sure the opening murders were absolutely stunning and the visual imagery was brilliant but the pacing was ridiculously off, the ending was lame and Susie was so ****ing annoying I wanted to slap the **** outta here during the whole movie. It took her forever to do anything and her dialogue was flat and monotonous. It can't be help I guess since originally Argento intended the movie to feature pre-teen girls. Still, I think people are too mesmerized by the visual aspect of the film to see how flawed it is in other departments which in my opinion brings the movie down a few notches.

But to each his own. I really liked Inferno since it had a much tighter pace, great atmosphere and likeable characters, but many people regard that to be his worst.

Arguably.

Suspiria, Phenomena, Opera, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage and Inferno all give it a run for it's money. Hard to pick a best.
