I was just rewatching Tenebre after a long while since my last viewing, and there`s something I really didn`t get. Was Altieri - the police girl Jane´s lover? I know that John Saxon was having an affair with Jane, but she having an affair with Altieri as well? It seemed a bit confusing. Does anyone know? Also, if she wasn`t Jane`s lover, what was she doing in the house after all? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
shareNot a stupid question at all. In fact, I never thought of Jane being Det. Altieri's lover. I figured Jane was in the house to see Fulmer (John Saxon) not realizing he was murdered by Peter Neal. If I remember correctly, Jane was Peter Neal's fiancee. My guess is that Det. Altieri somehow knew Peter Neal was going to the house to kill Jane because of her affair with Fulmer. When he whacks a woman from behind with the ax, he thought it was Jane he killed after chopping off Det. Altieri's arm previously. In reality, he chopped off Jane's arm while thinking that was Det. Altieri because of the gun.
Of course, I could be 100% wrong, but I hope my explanation helps!!

Altieri wasn't Jane's lover. It is clearly said in the movie, she got a clue from Bullmer's made about Jane's and Bullmer's affair and she came there to check it out.
