Some questions: SPOILERS!

1. Why does Jane mess with his luggage?
And that she does with the help of this other woman with her, I suppose, while Jane calls Neal from the pay phone.

2. Then she drops hints that she is in Rome by making brief appearances from her car. Why would she want do that?

3. Why does Jane call Anne, then wait for her with a gun in her hand?

4. What's with the red shoes Jane receives? It is obvious that Neal sent them to her..but why on earth would he do a thing like that? It is also obvious that he took them from the girl he killed in his teens..but that whole thing of sending those shoes to Jane didn't make much sense to me.

5. Who does Neal mistake Altieri for, when he hacks her?

"We are God's unwanted children? So be it!"

1. Why does Jane mess with his luggage?

Well I think Jane thinks that Peter is having an affair with Anne and she wrecks his luggage out of jealousy.

2. Then she drops hints that she is in Rome by making brief appearances from her car. Why would she want do that?

Maybe she wants to get back together with Peter so she starts stalking him. She also starts sleeping with his agent plsyed by John Saxon, probably in a vain effort to find out what Peter is doing as Peter is the guy she really desires.

3. Why does Jane call Anne, then wait for her with a gun in her hand?

I don't recall this part as I haven't seen the film in a while but again it could be jealousy that Anne and Peter have the kind of relationship she could never have. Maybe she planned to kill Anne and take her place as Peter's love interest.

4. What's with the red shoes Jane receives? It is obvious that Neal sent them to her..but why on earth would he do a thing like that? It is also obvious that he took them from the girl he killed in his teens..but that whole thing of sending those shoes to Jane didn't make much sense to me.

At this point, Peter has started taking over where Berti (the original killer) left off. He finds out that Jane is sleeping with his agent and decides to punish her for it by killing her. Sending her the shoes was just a way of telling her that she'll die next. The fact that it's the same pair of shoes that the young harlot was wearing is significant. Peter killed her because he saw her as being perverted and deviant and he sees Jane the same way.

5. Who does Neal mistake Altieri for, when he hacks her?

Neal mistakes Detective Altieri for Anne who he intended to kill next.

Thanks for all the answers...
But why did he want to kill Anne? Does he see her as being perverted too?

"We are God's unwanted children? So be it!"

reply

Good question, I think that by the end of the film Peter started to panic as he thought the police were onto him. Maybe he thought he could cover his tracks by killing Anne who would be a key witness if the police ever arrested him on suspicion of murder.

I'm glad you like the film enough to want to tie up all the various loose ends and get answers to the parts that don't make sense. Tenebre is a cool film but there's a lot to take in the first time you watch it.

Thanks again :).

"We are God's unwanted children? So be it!"

reply

No probs!

Peter doesn't want to kill Anne. He's horrified when he realises what he's done, thinking it's Anne that he's killed (the detective is wearing similar clothes to Anne).

reply

Tenebre means "unsane" doesn't it?

I think Neal lost his mind and tried to kill everyone.

reply

Yep, he was already damaged goods after having killed that girl when he was a kid. Hearing about the murders that Cristiano Berti was perpetrating pushed him over the edge.

reply

"Unsane" was the alternate title for the U.S.A. release. Tenebre means shadow, or darkness.

reply

Good call, didn't know that, thanks for the correction.
