Yet again 'Arrow' mess up the blu ray + get annoyed when it's mentioned

Seems that yet again 'Arrow' think flashy packaging is better than an actual good print.

Waited ages for this classic Argento gem to get a blu-ray release and what do we have?
A transfer drenched in smear and floating background grain that looks like it's been put on the transfer after the fact.

But don't dare mention any of this (reported in almost every single review anywhere) on the lousy 'Cult Labs' forums.
The Mods get annoyed and simply tell you to shut up, stop moaning, don't buy it then or if you have bought it just sell it and shut up.

Nice. I guess they pay themselves so much that the financial outlay of their less well off customers means nothing to them. Let alone aesthetic integrity they show no sign of having or caring about.

Here is a typical reply by one of their Mods 'Reaver':

""""And once again...NO ONE HAS DIED-YOU'VE NOT BEEN TOLD YOU HAVE A MONTH TO LIVE-YOU NOT BEEN EVICTED/DIVORCED/MOLESTED/MUGGED OR ANYTHING ELSE WHICH MAY CONTEMPLATE SUICIDE......
It's a DVD release-don't like it-don't buy it....
Buy it don't like it-trade it or sell it...
Buy it and like it-fine you're happy....
Don't buy it-buy another version-fine.""""

Customer service and satisfaction? LMAO!

its not really that bad man. sure ive seen better and the phenomena transfer is better. but i think tenebre looks better than the deep red bluray they did. even tho i honestly dnt think that ones bad either. i have yet to see the BU deep red but ive been reading its not that great also. i can say i have the BU inferno bluray and that it looks amazing. i have not seen arrows inferno tho. and who knows if anchor bay or whatever company owns the rights to phenomena and tenebre even have plans on releasing them on blu. so for now im just happy to have these films in hd for now.

idk if you are a de palma fan either but i also recently picked up the arrow obsession bluray and that is an amazing disc also

The transfer is pretty terrible for a HD presentation.

The strange moving film of fake-grain is very bad at times, the contrast blooms and wipes out facial shadow detail (thus noses often vanish due to know side shadow on them) and detail is almost no better than DVD...it's just sharpened a lot.

And age/obsucrity has nothing to do with anything either.
Take a look at this and the 'Arrow' (no different from the DVD transfer) "Who Dares Wins" blu-ray and then look at the stunning blu-ray transfer of semi-forgotten 80's gem "The Boys from Brazil" on the 'ITV' label.

If 'ITV' can deliver such a stunning transfer of an old niche title then 'Arrow' have no defense for the shoddy job they have done on the popular/long awaited "Tenebre".

But it's not JUST the transfer...it's their 'who cares anyway' attitude to their customers.

i can def understand what you are saying about the we can give a crap attitude.
and i admit that the grain got worse towards the end of the film. i dnt know why it wsnt taken care of better because the phenomena one they did looked great. aside from that the bonus features are excellent. im still alot more impressed with this version than the anchor bay ones.

and speaking of shoddy blurays idk if you have seen any of the stuff echo bride put out, but they are pretty much destroying everything they are releasing in hd. esp. halloween h20 and from dusk till dawn. those films dnt even look like they are in hd and they are messing with the aspect ratios terribly for sum reason. sure they are cheap, but the dvds look better, so they are just a total rip off

Is it just me or do all the Argento Arrow DVD Documentaries have crap audio, that even on full volume is dead quiet.

reply

I've got the fully uncut Dutch DVD of Tenebrae, released by A-Film, which does me fine for the time being.I've only got four Arrow Blu-rays: Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, The Beyond (with the corrected disc), and Phenomena.I'm pleased with the ones I've got.

Is the Arrow release viewable without a region free player in America? I know Deep Red is, but Funhouse wasn't?

I picked up the Arrow release for Deep Red over the BU, but probably just for packaging. The image quality is different or worse than BU, but I don't think it'll kill me.

reply

yes the tenabre arrow bluray is region free. the funhouse bluray was also region free when it first came out, but now that shout factory is releasing it this fall arrow must have changed it because the arrow funhouse bluray i have plays in my ps3.

reply

Yes, I'm picking up The Funhouse Scream Factory release. It has deleted scenes interestingly enough, which were absent on the Arrow release. I love my Arrow Deep Red release, it's a fantastic package.

reply

the deep red arrow blu is excellent, so is the phenomena bluray arrow put out. one thats a real stinker is bird w the crystal plumage. avoid that one at all costs.

im really looking foward to some of the scream factory stuff tho.

i wont pick up funhouse, but they live, terror train, and deadly blessing are a must.

im thinking about halloween 2 also just for the television version, i have the universal so im not sure.

hopefully they can get their hands on some argento stuff, sleepless or opera would be nice as would a descent copy of bird since the BU is OOP.

If Cult Labs are that abusive/obnoxious to their customers, can't you just report them to trading standards? Companies like that think they can get away with foul attitudes until someone gets them reported, they hate bad press.

"The BBC would like to apologize for the following announcement."
