Who would you cast for a modern day Tenebre

Not to say this movie should be remade or anything but just messin around...

Peter--
Either Sean Bean or Clive Owen they'd make strong, inquistive and handsome leads as Anthony Franciosa did

Anne--
Catherine Bell (of JAG & Army Wives fame)

Gianni--
Shawn Ashmore or other random good looking young blonde actor

Jane--
Bahar Soomekh (SAW III) just as beautiful as the original actress and it goes along with the whole unfaithful woman gets her comeuppance thing :)

Lady In Red High heels--
Eva Longoria. She does kinda have a masculine face and she looks great in red.

Bullmer--
For some reason i could really see Steve Carrell doing this part <shrugs>

yep im really bored byebye

Bahar Soonekh = perfect Jane. Great choice.
Unfortunately I can't say the same about the others.

And you're right, It shouldn't be remade. In fact, Argento will not allow it

Hundreds of Names campe up in my mind (very interesting idea, especially in case of this particular Argento Film) but I'll try to limit myself to the more popular names...
AND: Not all of those actors are specifically GREAT.

Peter Neal -
Jeremy Irons, François Berléand, Ralph Fiennes, Josh Brolin... (Too bad that Harvey Keitel is probably too old and Warren Oates dead...)

Anne -
Sarah Polley, Kseniya Rappoport, Ludivine Sagnier, Chloë Sevigny, Chiara Conti, Samantha Morton, Laura Linney, Naomi Watts...

Bullmer -
Sam Rockwell, Kyle McLachlan, Robert Patrick, Bob Hoskins

Christiano Berti -
Hugues Quester, Philip Seymour-Hoffman

Det. Germani -
Ryan Reynolds (only if he wears a beard, LOL), Kim Rossi-Stuart, Henry Thomas

Tilde -
Tilda Swinton, Connie Nielsen, Helena Bonham-Carter, Franka Potente, Elsa Pataky, Toni Colette, Coralina Cataldi Tassoni (I don't know, she has something very headstrong and impulsive)

Marion -
Gina Gershon (now, that'd be typecasting - but I wouldn't mind), Eva Mendes (typecasting again...)

Jane McKerrow -
God, I'd love to see Beatrice Dalle, Margherita Buy or Sharon Stone playing that role.

A much better question is why has this not been done yet. It seems EVERYTHING I have ever seen , read or listened to has been made, remade, re-imagined and re-interpreted twice already. There is hardly anything remaining from my childhood memories that has not been replaced by a vapid big budget blunder.

reply

Yeah I see what youre saying and I have a response in my head but I cant articulate it but I'll try to anyway :P

I think mainly its because in all honesty, while we all love Tenebre to death, it really wouldnt stand out in today's world. I love it because I feel, along with many other Argento fans, that this was the pinnacle of Dario's career and we know and understand the giallo and how this movie reflects absolute perfection in that genre. You really can't expect to put it into a modern day, mainstream context and have people understand its beauty. People will either scratch their head at this film or say, eh it was a violent murder mystery and move on. Suspiria on the other hand I can see working out despite how I feel about it being remade, because its such an iconic film in and of itself.

I hope that made sense.

reply

Actually, I wrote(for college credit so far only) an 127-page screenplay that takes "all the interesting bits" from Tenebre without being too obvious, and I add a whole lot more depth, dimension, and gore to it. I just know that in the right hands, this movie would make mega-millions if it was made perfectly according to my vision of it. I don't want to give any specifics away, but I KNOW this movie could blow away all the Saws, Hostels, etc. if it ever actually got produced. It's a top 100 ever film just waiting to see the light of day.

reply

Oh nice. Who knows one day this will be a reality.

WHO IS HECTOR MOLINA...AND WHY DO THEY KEEP SENDING ME HIS JUNK MAIL?!

reply

As much as I hate to say it, Id be into a remake of Tenebre. I think it would be awesome if it was done right.

reply

David Lynch, David Cronenberg, or David Fincher.

reply

Peter - Kevin Spacey (I don't know, I could just see him as Peter)
Anne - Erica Leerhsen
Tilda - Mary Elizabeth Winstead (I think they look alike, or maybe it's just the hair)
Gianni - I totally agree with the idea of Shawn Ashmore playing Gianni
Maria - Jocelin Donahue (The heroine in The House of the Devil)
Jane - Definitely Bahar Soomekh

Ha, made you look!
