disturbing scene

I really enjoyed this film but what the reviewer said above was true. it was too long with too many unnecessary scenes. one scene that I really didn't like was towards the end when he sacrifices a goat. now I get it that he is supposed to be some sort of a "god" or he thinks he is, and they wanted to have a big bbq etc but they go out of their way to show the sacrifice of the poor goat. normally I'm not very squeamish but hearing that goat scream it seemed way too real, almost as if they really did kill a goat. it was sad and brutal and I just think unnecessary and I am not some peta person or vegetarian, I just don't like to listen to animals suffer and that goat sounded like it was suffering. then they all go merrily on with their party.

really liked the movie though. raul julia, great stuff

I hear ya, but no goats were seriously harmed. Cassavettes kept saying he was going to kill the goat, but was just *beep* There were some minor shocking of the goats for another scene, but none were killed according to mazursky in this interview:

Well, Greeks and Romans used to sacrifice animals in ancient times. That scene is keeping with the tradition. It's meant to be a comment.

true and they surely slaughtered a ton of animals for entertainment in the arena and for religious purposes. I just watched a new show from ted nugent, wanted ted or alive where he sees if 5 city people can survive in his ranch area. he shows up after letting the group look for food and they can't find much, he shows up with a live chicken and holds it up as it's squawking away he says "I'll bet you never heard your food talking to you before" then he pulls out a set of knives so I thought he was going to cut it's throat, but then he stands up and just flings and smashes the chickens head onto a rock killing it instantly, then proceeds to cut it open. and this was real unlike this movie. but somehow a chicken isn't as disturbing as a goat bleating.
