How did Arcane survive this film to be in the sequel?

Dr. Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan) at the end of the first film turned into a hairy beast by driking Alec Holland's potion. Arcane then was killed by Swamp Thing when Swampy thrust a sword into him. So how did he survive to be in the sequel? I don't remember any explaination in The Return of Swamp Thing on how Arcane 1) survived being killed with a sword and 2) how he got turned back to normal after mutating into a beast. This seems to be a huge plot hole. Please help me if you know any information. Thanks.

You must not be accustomed to comic books. Villian in comics rutinely come back from certain death. The second movie needd arcane, so he simply returned.

Actually they did explain it. If you remember when Abby was abducted by Arcane's soldiers and brought back to his mansion, his assistant, Dr. Rochelle explained that Arcane ALMOST died because of Swamp Thing.
I think this is the quote...

"Your stepfather was almost dead when Dr. Zurel and I found him at the bog. Over a period of months we were able to restore him to his present form. However, we still need a sample of Holland's tissue for the rejuvenation serum we have to make. Without the right ingredients for the formula, your stepfather's body will eventually deteriorate."

You see, they were only able to revive him temporarily, but they still needed Swamp Thing's rejuvenation serum to revive him permanently.
Of course, Arcane would become immortal as well.

I agree, the fact that he all of a sudden had scientists that you never even heard mention of in Part 1 and were able to revive and reverse the effects of a potion that was just created really stretched the believability.
