Reciprocal Course

It's always bugged me that Kirk didn't order a reciprocal course (180 degrees) from Reliant in order to get the greatest distance between the two ships as they were trying to get away from the Genesis device during its countdown. I know that it was more cinematically convenient to frame them in the same shot as they did, but still...

Kirk was all full of screwed up on this mission...not raising shield, etc. but what are you gonna do. It's still one of my favs. Out.

I suspect that it had more to do with being able to reuse existing shots of Enterprise than anything else. It would make more sense than just the 3-point turn they showed in the film.

Maybe it was the fastest direction out of the nebula(which would cause friction and slow down their maximum acceleration).

Reliant was just barely drifting. Probably made no difference at all which direction the Enterprise went in.
