I understand that film grain is always going to be apart of film. I have absolutely no problem with it. I believe film has an innate charm because of grain. "The Secret of Nimh" and "The Last Unicorn" (I have both Blu-rays) have a lot of grain, but both films are generally pleasing to the eye despite their technical shortcomings compared to Disney.
I am intimately familiar with Nimh. I love it and have seen it no less than a dozen times. Most of the viewing came from my old DVD copy from the late 90's. I know that the film was lower budget and had many technical limitations. The old DVD had a lot of artifacts and scratches, so I was looking forward to the Blu-ray because I assumed it used the remaster for the 2-disc DVD.
This is my complaint with Nimh on Blu-ray. There were multiple scratches throughout much of the movie. Some of those scratches were present on the old SD DVD copy I used to have. If the Blu-ray used the recent remaster, it's clear not much was done (to be fair though, the colors were a lot more robust).
Nimh certainly looks better on Blu-ray, but I felt it left a lot to be desired. It's mainly those pesky scratches!
