It's good, I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece (though VERY good by recent standards). I agree with whoever said Doug "nostalgia critic" Walker seems to have a penchant for letting atmosphere and mood take precedence over other aspects of filmmaking. His favorites list is a pretty strong indication of that, and I think this film is the perfect example. It has LOADS of atmosphere; a very distinctly dark and creepy mood accompanying the otherwise pretty bland story. I remember the book being a lot better (read it after seeing the movie), delving more into the backstory of the rats of NIMH, and the characters being a lot more interesting. Still the movie is quite enjoyable. I just think aside from the fantastic animation that serves to create a perfect setting for the story, the rest doesn't measure up. Mrs. Brisby is very good, but the pacing is pretty uneven, and I think it shows that they really worked hard to compress the story elements to fit within a running time befitting to a kid's movie (77 minutes). Had this been made with more recent cartoon standards ("serious" cartoons being viable), and thus being able to work under a longer running time, and mixed with the production quality it already has, I think it could have been truly amazing.
