Last of a dying breed
Porky's was one of the last pure teen aged sex romps. It was the kind of movie that everyone knew had lots of sex and nudity. It was not a great movie or even a particularly good movie (note that other than Kim Catrall, no one in the cast ever did anything else notable). Its purpose was to be an "R" sex movie that teens would have to sneak into. The characters, like the movie were deliberately dirty minded and they did not learn any lessons, they just had fun and in the end, got back at their nemesis. There were other teen movies which were "clean" coming-of-age films where sex was hinted at or even discussed, but never shown.
One year later an unknown director and a first time screen writer got together and made a little film called "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Fast Times was almost as raunchy as Porky's, but it was also a life-lesson-teaching coming-of-age movie and a great one. Ever since its release, teen and high school movies routinely work both ways. American Pie, for example, is extremely raunchy, but lessons are learned and ages are come of.
