Cavanaugh (Tim's Father)

This guy (just out of prison) was plain poor white trash. I was glad when the young police officer knocked him down after Cavanaugh smacked around his own son. That girl that was riding in back of Cavanaugh on his motorcycle looked like white trash also. Cavanaugh looked like he belonged with the trash out at Porky's- worse. Too bad for his son- Tim.

Tim's father is never seen or mentioned again after the fight at the school dance. I wonder what happened to him.

Late reply.

I think he most likely died of liver failure shortly after the first movie. I mean was there ever a scene in the film where he didn't appear drunk?

reply

What was he saying in some scenes? The first one when he yells at his son and slaps a drink out of his hand "I heard you got ? on some n!gger tonight" and when he's harassing Schwartz. "We're the boys, we know! Heah heah!"

reply

The first one I think is "I heard you turn tail from some N tonight", meaning he ran away from an african american...

The second one is an anti semitic diddy, "Dewey, Hymie, Abey, Sam....we're the boys who eat no ham"...

Spoiler alert for them spoil sports out there! Y'all like spoiled milk, stop crying over it!

Another thing, total white trash, but don't know about poor. He can afford a nice motorcycle, leather jacket, etc. And that girl he was with was like 19 and oblivious to his mistreatment of his son and devoid of personality

That's why Tim was so racist at first towards Brian and others. But he realized that his dad was wrong.

reply

I agree that Tim's father was a mjor reason for Tim being racist. But I don't think it was the only reason. You notice that some of Tim's friends were rooting for him in his fight with Brian. It is possible that some of them had racist tendencies also.

I'd like to think that Tim realized his dad was wrong. You will note that Tim tried to pal around wiht Brian after Brian beats the craxxp out of him in a fight and after I (think) Tim's white trash father beats him and then threatens Brian. Too bad the deputy didn't pound the living pixxxss out of the father.

Brian comes across as a real star. First he takes out Tim w/o Tim even landing a blow. Then he corrects Tim's use of the word *beep* (vs. "kite'). Then, most significnatly, it is Brian's plan that takes down Porky's place- big time. Brian's success may also help to change Tim's racist attitude.

reply

They might've also been cheering for Tim in the fight against Brian because they knew Tim longer. It had nothing to do with racism.

reply

You might very well be right. Although prior to the fight Tim had slammed Brian to the ground while in practice and been remonstated by the coach for doing it. Also, Tim had called Brian a "kite," apparently not knowing the correct word had a "k", not a "t" as the 3rd letter. Their teammates saw and heard both of these incidents, and said or did nothing. Still, there is no evidence that Brian was ill treated by any of the guys other than Tim.

One might sympathize with Tim, as he had a horrible home life, especially with that dixxckhead of a father. And it all seemed to work out with Brian, the other guys and Tim.
