Let's be honest

The humour in Porky's was mainly reliant on the audience pretending we got 'jokes' that we didn't really understand yet. And pretending we were there for the comedy and not cheap teenage thrills.
Now we're older and looking at it with more, erm, understanding eyes, it's really not very funny at all is it?

Pretending we got the jokes? What's not to get about Mike Hunt? Many scenes are still quite funny, although I will admit I never laughed as much during PORKY'S II.

Who's this we? People that around what age exactly? What if you saw this film for the first time as an adult and you already understood all the jokes?

My friends and I saw this in the theater back in the day, we were all around 17/18 and we laughed our assets off. I recently watched and actually couldn't remember what I thought was so funny back then!

It seems so dated!

reply

No, not dated. You grew up and your humor changed.

I never gpt around to seeing Porky's in its initial theatrical run since I lived in Germany at the time. I FINALLY decided to give it a viewing just last year and was expecting a laugh a minute, rip roaring time. Honestly, I thought it was lame. So disappointed. Maybe I had to see it in its initial run to get the laughs. I think there are far more funnier movies out there.

I saw Porky's at 14 or 15 back in the 80's and just watched it again as a 40 year old recently. I didn't realize how funny this movie was.

Porky's is so much better than some of the "stupid humor" comedies of today like the Hangover, Hall Pass, etc)

Been watching it on VH1 quite a bit this summer too, this is such a masterpiece.

It's still funny as hell. Get checked for Alzheimer's.

This movie certainly has its share of funny, as well as plenty of T&A. But as Bob Clark stated in the commentary, the women really have the upper hand on the men. The issue of racism, is unexpected, yet dealt with in a realistic manner. I think now looking back after 30 years, Porky's was a little ahead of its time.

I would say its a different kind of funny raunchy comedy....like screwballs oddballs....caddyshack..... meatballs cannon ball run just like charlie chaplin and the marx brothers Three Stooges all most the same with out showing nakend women.....

I watched it for the first time yesterday. I wasn't expecting much but I have to be honest and say that I found it to be entertaining.

It was equivalent to something like the first American Pie movie.
