Anyone else kind of reminded of...

Big Bang Theory?

I was watching this again for the first time in like 20 years last night, but it hit me pretty early on that Big Bang Theory has some real similarities.

1. Nerdy guy lives across hall from hottie (and yes, Shelly Long was actually kinda hot in this, and pretty sexy as well)
2. Nerdy guy has friend who is somewhat "off" (Keaton's character is a cross between Raj and Howard; Winkler's character a cross between Leonard and Sheldon)
3. Nerdy guy and hottie become friends, then lovers
4. Hottie has heart of gold (except for the "getting paid for sex," she's a lot like Penny in a lot of ways)
5. Nerd uses brains to help hottie/hottie helps loosen up nerd (call it the reciprocol factor)

That's all I have, but as I was watching it, I kept thinking, this is all vaguely familiar in a more modern way...

Thoughts?

No, but it definitely reminded me of RISKY BUSINESS.

In watching this for the first time in decades, Billy Blaze reminded me greatly of Bruce Willis as David Addison on "Moonlighting."

reply

Keaton reminded me of Stiles from Teen Wolf, and Val Kilmer as Chris Knight in Real Genius.

Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Chuck wasn't a nerd, although he's somewhat geeky.

Well if anything, the cutesy show big bang theory would remind of the iconic film Night Shift.
But, no.

Interesting analogy. You can definitely say that Chuck and Leonard both suffer from massive inferiority complexes as well.

Those character dynamics are pretty common though, everyone is a misfit and not entirely suited (or stereotypical) of the job they are doing. Except maybe the hookers, they always have to be experts.
