a comedy classic - why not as well known?

this belongs on the comedy classic shelf from this era with caddyshack, stripes and animal house

i agree. the film is funny, has a cheerful tone, and has it's heart in the right place. i still think it's one of ron howard's best films.
i have no idea why it isn't as well known. when it was released, i was five years old. so you'd think if a guy like me would know about it, by now it would at least have a cult following.

1982 was such a huge year for films (Blade Runner, ET, Fast Times At Ridgemont High) it kind of got lost. But Night Shift is a classic

To this day, every time I hear the Stones' "Jumpin Jack Flash", I think of Michael Keaton, either strutting around singing it, or listening to it as he's driving down the road, giving the cops the finger through the tinted glass.

Same here.

HA! I was just hearing that beat (Stone's JJF) in my head... DUN-DUN, DUN-DUN-DUN DUN-DUN-DUN DUN-DUN-DUN, DUN-DUN and thought to myself, I need to watch Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler! lolol

Great movie!

Yeah, that´s one compliment that can be made - Night Shift is nothing special exactly, but it´s at least better than the lame, idiotic Animal House & Caddyshack. Could have been much better if that whore Ron Howard wouldn´t have imposed another one of these dumb, silly happy endings on the affairs; with this guy, everything turns into embarrassing mush sooner or later. Still, a modest success as it may be, Night Shift is probably his best movie.

It's pretty well known.

Because it's not a comedy classic. You might like it, it's kind of enjoyable but it isn't considered a classic.
