Sick in the mornings? (spoiler)

So was Mary "in the family way" after all by the end of the film? Its been a really long time since I've seen it, but I could've sworn she said she was getting sick in the mornings right at the end of the film.

It was so funny earlier in the movie when she hollered out "I have concieved"!
But then later, she said she wasn't "in the family way after all" (got her period?). So, did she actually get pregnant later or what? I know I had some spotting with both my pregnancies, and didn't have any morning sickness until I was about 4 months along. Could that have been what happened? Or was it simply "hysterical pregnancy" symptoms? Or did she and Red sleep together again before he died? Like I said, its been a really long time since I've seen this movie (I was a kid). I'm totally clueless on this one.

I had never heard the term "in the family way" as a euphamism for "pregnant" until I saw this film. Is it a regional thing, or was it just a commonly used term in the era in which the movie is set?
