This film needs a remake
Nothing wrong with the original, it's a very emotional film, but I think a remake is the only way to save it from obscurity. Any ideas about cast???
shareActually a remake would be terrible. But if you must Clint Eastwood would be my pick.;), but also seeing that the legendary Marty Robbins is no longer among us as well. Leave this film alone. However there are many ways to create interest such releasing a director's cut, releasing it back in the theatres as many older films do. This film is a master piece and a remake will hurt this classic. So as the saying goes, what is not broken don't fix. Fact is the film has also 24 minutes that was unreleased so releasing this as the director's cut is only natural and to release it in theatres won't hurt either. This film did not do very well at first glance was due to many reasons lack of theatre release is one and advertising was nil as I can remember it.
Myself I enjoy this classic, but without television play and advertising of the such, interest dies and it's too bad for this one.
I'd like to see the directors cut too...
Besides Marty Robbins, the appearances of Johnny Gimble and Ray Price are also treasures in this movie... quite a line up of legends in our Musical History!
I felt the script had some holes in it... still trying to figure how they got pulled over for one headlight in broad daylight...
From what I understand, Eastwood, as a virtually independent filmmaker, releases his "director's cut" on the first run. That's why his movies tend to run longer than most.
shareWhat would really be interesting would be a Sequel, to see what happens to the kids etc. and there could be some flashbacks with Clint etc.

This film is a master piece and a remake will hurt this classic.That logic always seems quite stupid to me.
Still, I wouldn't say that this "needs" a remake. I wouldn't mind a remake, but I do love this film, too.
