Has anyone else actually seen this?
Seems like I'm in a minority when it comes to D'Amato films...does anybody else actually like any of his horror stuff?

Its not the best italian gore movie, but the music in this movie is brillant! The crasy organ music at the ending fits the movie perfect! I also love the wierd music in Erotic Nights of the Living Dead also staring B'Eastman! I wonder if its possible to get hold of the soundtrack.

I saw this film with my sister in the early 80's i was about six at the time. She was babysittin me and we were at her mates house. I cant believe its been banned all these years. I remember watching the film through the gaps in my fingers. I still remember the murder scenes well. Especially the guy getting thrown onto the bandsaw, and the killing of the bad guy at the end. It would be really really appreciated if someone got in touch with me by email if they know someone who has a copy of this film. Would they be willing to send me a copy of it on whatever kind of media they have it on? CHEERS PAUL (WEAVE) WEAVER
shareMaybe too late with this, but I saw this on TV once on the MPix Channel here in Canada. It runs old (5 years old or more)movies. Needless to say, the version I saw was probably heavily edited. Nonetheless, the story was pretty boring, and even with the gore I'd probably have stopped watching it soon into it. Not meaning to run down D'Amato or your affection for his films, but this one seemed sucky.
shareYou are not alone. I enjoy D'amato's films, the good and the bad. I am eagerly awaiting the DVD release of Anthropophagous by Shriek Show in the U.S. this year and hope they release part 2 as well.
shareI remember sometime in the mid eighties, my eldest sister saw it on video at a friends house (she was about 15 at the time). She was so terrified walking home at night afterwards, she put her hand through the glass front door in an effort to get into our house quickly. Not half as scary as our mum when she saw what happened though.
shareYup sure have. Its an uncut VHS copy from Blackest Heart Media, when they were still in the biz. I like D'Amatos flix, he is no Fulci, but he tends to present a darkly uneasyness to his films. Anthropophagus2 was a pretty good movie, I wish it could of been more like 1, but it was an interesting piece. D'Amato was one of the only ones to conbine 3 different generes into one film and make it work. I think of all his films, his horror, erotic, and horror-erotic films are the overall best of his career. I dont really care for his porn much, they're kinda stale compared to Erotic Nights of the Living Dead and other Horror-erotica efforts of D'Amato.
shareyes. in 1988. as Monster Hunter. wizard video. from erols.
its pretty good . . . i think anthropophagus is better; grosser (fetus ripping)
DISGUSTINGLY AWESOME!!!
yeah seen it, its avery good film it differs from his other films cause the death scenes are spread out rather than grouped together
I too found this movie entertaining, mostly for the wrong reasons, but that's a lot better than not being entertaining at all. D'Amato was not a great horror director. His strength was really softcore porn like the "Black Emanuelle" series(he later directed a lot of hardcore porn too, but I don't think there's such a thing as a "good" hardcore porn movie). His softcore porn movies always had really good cinematography. He had an impressive stable of actresses (one of whom, Annie Belle, played "Emily" in this movie, and is barely reconizable with her clothes on). Most of all though, he often showed an apalling lack of good taste, which might not appeal to everbody, but, for me at least, makes them a lot more entertaining than your usual mind-numbing three-hankie stroke flicks.
From interviews I've read, D'Amato really LIKED making horror films, which shows through the patina of general cinematic incompetence in many places and adds to the charm of this movie.
Exterminate the Brutes!
Monster Hunter (as it's known here) was shown on New Zealand television as part of the "Incredibly Strange TV" double features on the MGM channel.
The other film in the double feature was a lame sword and scorcery film by the same director called "Quest for the Mighty Sword".
Yep.
Easily as good as Anthropophagus.
*It is not a good day if you are not looking good*
I love Joe D'Amato's Beyond the Darkness and Anthropophagus, I haven't seen any of his other flicks but ordered the mya disc of Horrible (aka Absurd) on the strength of these two.I've now watched Absurd and it is a little slow paced, certainly not as entertaining as the other two movies I mentioned. But it does contain a couple of rather juicy gore setpieces involving a surgical drill and a bandsaw! The DVD's pq is pretty rough in places but perfectly watchable.
