How much do you know about Fitzcarraldo?

When you watched “Fitzcaraldo” at what moment do you think a character is speaking for Herzog? Where do the viewpoints that he expressed on nature, images, courage, society, the jungle and it’s human and non human inhabitants appear validated or negated? For instance; It is possible for a director to use characters to split apart contradictory feelings and ideas in the form of a “protagonist” and an “antagonist”.

really it seemed to me Fitzgerald probably represented Herzog. A mirrored kind metaphor for the journeys they both went through. I'm sure it was highly personal for him.
