Fitzcarraldo referenced in The Simpsons

Saw this episode in the simpsons last night, the episode is "On a Clear Day I Can't See My Sister" and in it the schoolchildren are forced to tow their bus up an icy road, and Üter exclaims "I feel like I'm in Fitzcarraldo." Nelson replies "That movie was flawed!", punching Üter in the stomach.

What does he mean by flawed?

He probably meant that it is overhyped, amateurish directed crap.

He was probably talking about the fact that the real Fitzcarraldo disassembled his boat to move it over the mountain, whereas Herzog felt that it would have been more realistic if he dragged the whole boat over the mountain.

reply

Not more realistic, simply some sort of ecstatic truth. ^^
