Joni Mitchell/Fitz
If anyone has a copy of the Joni Mitchell song called "The Jungle Line", give it a listen and see if you can spot some of the same sound effects from "Fitz"

AH!! That's where that was!!!!
The whole time I was watching this movie after I heard those drums I KNEW I heard them somewhere before.... I was thinking it was this guy Caetano Veloso - I figured it wouldn't be so out there for him to use a sample of that...
But that's it! Joni Mitchell.... Awesome, thanks for clearing that up!! whew... I hate it when that happens...
When I heard it in the film, I, too, remembered it from SOMEWHERE. But I finally did recall where I had heard it before. Is there any reference that Herzog or Mitchell make to where either one of them found it or composed it?
shareThe drums are from the Royal Drummers of Burundi, a group of important drummers from the Republic of Burundi. As the name suggests, they mostly do ceremonies concerning royalty. I'd be interested to know if that particular drum riff is actually hundreds of years old, since many of them are.
