What happened to the two female cooks?

I don't know what Blockbuster Online was thinking but they sent me a scratched DVD of this film that skips over an entire crucial scene. When Fitzcarraldo's crew visits the missionary house, the missionary tells him a story about two brothers of his that ventured out into the wilderness... and then suddenly that's when my disc froze and skipped over to the next scene. I tried to rewind it but the farthest I could get was an image of the two female cooks standing on the shore watching the ship sail away.

What happened in the scene that I missed? Did the two female cooks get kicked off the boat for some reason?

Yes, they did - along with a few other crewmembers, who felt they were unable to proceed.

The women were thrown out because they were causing tension between the men. This is ironic since Herzog said that a priest told him to bring along prostitutes--who play the cook's helpers in the film--to relieve tension amongst his crew in the jungle.

I think they sent me the same disc. My copy skipped over that scene also.

I'm thinking the woman cooks, the crew men kicked off for fighting and the surviving crew men who deserted ship started a community near the mission.

That happened in California quite a bit. A community would grow up outside of the missions.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
