Self Referential film?

i would say yes fitcarraldo = herzog, who as a german film maker is like bringing Culture to a place without a strong movie industry lke fitz wanted to bring opera to his village, and also the indians and unruly crew of the ship as analogous to the crew esp. kinski andin terms of the logistical challenges fitzgeral faced in his journey, they were basically all the challenges herzog faced in choosing to make this movie.

This movie reminded me of the relationship of Sam Peckinpah and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. It was a veiled parallel story about Peckinpah's challenges with the corporate studio bosses.

With Fitzcarraldo, I felt like Herzog was commenting on the challenges of a visionary and big dreamer to be taken seriously by the establishment. But the wild dream still persevering after a lot of setbacks and troubles. Despite all the doubts and naysayers.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.
