shareI can tell you. That movie was the rage! Not on the level of GREASE. Or ANIMAL HOUSE. But the "Grease" of the early-mid 80's. It was the FERRIS BUELLER of the early '80's. It's popularity lasted well through the rest of the 80's into the early '90's.
shareWhen I was a kid my family moved around a lot, so I grew up all over southern California, including the Los Angeles area. Other than there being somewhat more comedy than in real life, the movie is a pretty realistic representation of southern California culture at the time. Yes, there really were guys who talked and acted like Spicoli, and they can still be found.
