Who Grew Up in Early 80s LA?

I live in LA but didn't move here until my 30s. There's a girl I know from Monrovia who's 42, and has a Spicolli-esque accent. Did people really talk like him or the characters in 'Valley Girl'? For Angelinos, where did you all grow up?

Still my milk and cookie days. And over 2K miles away. The Surfer Culture actually did speak that way, though.

I can tell you. That movie was the rage! Not on the level of GREASE. Or ANIMAL HOUSE. But the "Grease" of the early-mid 80's. It was the FERRIS BUELLER of the early '80's. It's popularity lasted well through the rest of the 80's into the early '90's.

When I was a kid my family moved around a lot, so I grew up all over southern California, including the Los Angeles area. Other than there being somewhat more comedy than in real life, the movie is a pretty realistic representation of southern California culture at the time. Yes, there really were guys who talked and acted like Spicoli, and they can still be found.
