One of Maggie's best performances.
Maggie Smith was sheer splendour in this movie. She glowed, she was vivacious , robust and for the first time she was playing a character she wouldn't call grotesque in the least. I always imagined her in the light of the heavy snobbishness and basic lethargy of great British actors, that they were perfect like well oiled hair, in their finery for evening merriment, but never quite cared for the depths of the character. Smith was a chameleon here.
