Which one is closer to the source?

I think the BBC-production with David Suchet is closer to the source, allthough not perfect either. But (except for Suchet of course, he's a great Poirot) I find it a lesser version than this, because everyone in this film are great, the costumes are wonderful, the setting is beautiful etc.
The BBC-version only has Suchet - which of course means a lot, but I find the acting a little stiff and the actors are imo unable to make the characters as colorful as in this.

It's interesting how you assess David Suchet as often giving the only good performances in episodes of his Poirot mysteries. I felt the same way about Jeremy Brett in many of his Holmes shows. So often it seemed that they had gathered actors and told them all to give the most listless, bland performances they could muster, and then thrown a manic (and brillant) Brett into the mix and he seemed to be performing amid a collection of cardboard cut-outs.
