How did Poirot know if Rex Brewster or Christine Redfern lied about their alibi if Linda didn't hear the noon day gun? Rex Brewster could have parked the pedal boat somewhere, killed Arlena and then gotten back on the boat.

because Christine Redfern had already left and waved good bye to Linda by the time Rex showed up.

Also Arlena and Rex were on opposite sides of the island at noon; time of death placed him too far away even if they fudged a bit on the cannon
