Were there 'touch ups' done to the Blu Ray version?

For example, the matte box around the moon in certain outdoor shots always seemed VERY noticeable on DVD, but watching the Blu Ray, I couldn't see it at all.

I didn't pause the movie and look from different angles or adjust the settings on my TV, but watching it the first time, I simply didn't see any matte box. So I'm wondering if Raimi might have color-corrected it in a way that removed it or made it much less apparent.

Also, there is a shot where Ash is in the background against a door, and posessed Scotty jumps up. In my memory, that was always a 'jump cut' where you could see that there was a 'cut' within the edit.

On the Blu Ray, it looked like such a thing was mitigated a bit by adding in a quick dissolve between the two shots, instead of a snap cut.

Am I just imagining things, or did others notice these 'adjustments' as well?

The box around the moon was never noticeable originally, it's only on the DVD transfer where it shows up. Even on the original VHS (which I still have) the box was not visible like on the DVD version.

They have "cleaned up" the Bluray in various ways, even digitally removing Bob Tappert's "cameo".

Shame really.
TED is supposed to be rough, dirty and grimy.

If you can get the un-matted DVD cut (which is very rare). It's as close as you can get to the original TED now...unless you still own the VHS.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

Well, the Blu Ray has the 1:33 version, taken from the original 16mm negative of the film.

What Tappert cameo are you referring to that they digitally removed? I only know of his cameo on the side of the road with Raimi. That's still in.

He had another by "accident".
As they cross the bridge in the opening, "originally" you can see Bob Tappert pop his head out from behind a bush in the background.
This has since been removed on the Bluray.

Oh, well, that's "No harm, no foul" as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe for some.
For me they have gone back and changed the film from it's original.

No, no, and NO.

The blu-ray applies necessary polish while preserving the film's original drive-in griminess. Its lackluster presentations on the un-matted DVD and VHS are testaments to those formats' drawbacks, not their abilities to retain fidelity to the source material. In short, it looks like $hit, but on blu-ray it's immensely appealing while maintaining the verisimilitude of its original exhibition.

Same excuses George Lucas would make with Star Wars...

They have unnecessarily "tried up" The Evil Dead on Bluray.

Lucas' Star Wars aberrations are in no way comparable to Raimi's improvement of The Evil Dead's problems.

There was another change on the Blu-ray that I'm confused about. Originally, when possessed Cheryl stabs Linda in the ankle with the pencil, there's a close-up of Linda's face when she's screaming in pain, and she seems to be looking down in the correct direction, but on the blu-ray release, the close-up of Linda has been flipped, and to me, she now seems to be looking down in the wrong direction. Other than that, I thought some of the "touch ups" were well done.
