Beginning Music

Does anybody know what the classical music at the very beginning of this film is? I really like it but I can't seem to find out anywhere.

It's classical, but it's the soundtrack score by Johnny Mandel. I just found most of the tracks online, don't think an actual soundtrack album was ever produced however.

The score is old fashion and melodramatic, which is appropriate to the film's atmosphere, style, and setting.

It's written in the baroque style (popular in the 18th century), but I don't think it's an actual authentic baroque piece.

I think it's just something that Johnny Mandel cooked up for the movie. Baroque music has an easily recognizable style and cliched phrasing, so it would be simple for a modern composer to write something that sounded as if it were from the 18th century.
