are you really so frightened by someone disagreeing with you that you had to comb through my old posts for something to make fun of me about? i'm sorry i missed the windmill, integral to the plot as it clearly was.

Interesting thread.

On the side, I LOVE that set/house they used in the film. Just a perfect setting.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

I loved the set too. Getting back to what perhaps was the original intention of the poster, what was the point of those few scenes that showed the wheels turning. I realised that it was due to the windmill mechanisms, but it seemed to look like it might come into the action as some stage but never did

reply

I agree. I love that house/set. I want a windmill house.

reply

Not to read too much into it, but the wheels work really well as an interesting prop that symbolizes all the machinations that are clearly at work in the heads of the main characters.

Love this movie. It's been a long time since I've seen it but at one point during the climax don't the wheels move cluing us in that one of the characters is climbing around on the windmill to try to outflank the other? Like I said it's been quite some time since I've seen the movie but I could have sworn I remember that.

Re-watching it, all these years later, that was what I was thinking.
It is just before Cliff comes through the 2nd floor window and attacks Sidney, causing Myra's heart attack.

For anyone reading old posts: Yes, the wheel in the ceiling was connected to the blades of the windmill. Cliff used the blades as a way to climb up to Sydney and Myra's window....and Sydney also used this method to climb up to the window at the end of the movie, when he was running around the house outside in the dark, trying to kill Cliff.
