a bit similar to sleuth

also has a play like feel. btw, This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's great and the acting is brilliant. In the scene in which Michael Caine calls the police in tears and then stops the waterworks the second he finishes the call really displays Caine's brilliance. The twists are a lot of fun. The film is top-notch.

Yes, this was a play first and it's even better on stage. The film is very good but cannot shake the staginess. That bothers some people but not me. I also like Christopher Reeve's "acting" in this. You can tell he was still working on getting his acting chops down. Some of his scenes look like rehearsals or out-takes. And the kiss was very radical when I saw this at the movies in 1982. That's the part everyone talked about, whether they liked it or not.

I believe both movies have harpsichord soundtracks. I saw Deathtrap first. When I later saw Sleuth, I thought Deathtrap's soundtrack must be an homage to it.

Sleuth's better, but Deathtrap is a lot of fun.
