Under-rated

I stumbled upon this the other day when I was scrolling through one of my cable tv services that offers free movies on demand; so I gave it a shot. I thought it was for the most part terrific. Very fast pacing, some jarring bursts of blood and violence, and the coolest of the cool - Toshiro Mifune! The 5.5 rating that it currently has is way too low for an action film this good. The last 20 minutes of pure action alone should snag this a 6.0 rating on this site. It's very entertaining and worth seeking out!

The Friends of Eddie Coyle needs to be released on DVD!

Why did they rename it The Challange?

What was the original title?

It was originally called Sword of the Ninja.

Actually, it was re-cut for TV & re-titled 'Sword of the Ninja'--according to Leonard Maltin.

Yes, I remember it first as "The Challenge".

This is an excellent movie for this genre.

Some very good fight choreography (which I think Seagal deserves credit for, regardless of what else you may think of him).

And then there is the iconic - Toshiro Mifune!

I remember watching this movie years ago, and then looking for but under the name "Sword of the Ninja" and couldn't find nothing. Definitely an underrated movie.

I thought it was always called the Challenge... I saw it for the first time in the early 80s on cable and it was called the Challenge back then.

And you are right, it DOES KICK BUTT!!!!!!!!

I first saw it as a kid, and just recently for the second time. All of Scott Glenn's manly charisma went out the window as soon as the fighting started - he's so clumsy here that they basically save his scenes in editing. And the Challenge is not that rich in cinematography department. The movie's certainly above average, but in concept it's way cooler than it is in execution.
