let's just ignore the sewage and flies in basement

If someone finds sewanhe and flies in their basement, wouldnt the normal reaction ne to get that fixed?

Also, how could the dad honestly believe his 2 small kids managed to pull off a fridge door?

Otherwise I do like the movie

Well, what other rational explanation could there be at that point (from his point of view)? At that point in the film, the events were not blamed on the supernatural. In fact, I don't think they ever mentioned demons, satan, or anything bazaar until it was time for them to die (all except for Trisha)

Also, maybe they were in the process of having the basement fixed/repaired. I don't think they "lived" very long in the house or at least long enough to see the basement repaired. Maybe they knew that work would need to be done when they moved in but didn't really know that they would have to fix the basement as well so it may not have been high on their list. With all the bickering, fighting, and screaming at each other I'm surprised they ate in the same room or had time to sleep.

Let's also ignore the blood coming out of the kitchen sink faucet.

Maybe Delores and Anthony chalked it up to rust or something else. Also, I kind of got the impression that Anthony was scared of Delores in a way that Delores wore the trousers in the family and was the sensible one, while Anthony blew a lot of hot air. I say this because Delores snapped and shouted at everyone at the dinner table and they (including Anthony) complied. She also let it be known that they were going back to apologise but Anthony didn't argue, he did what he was told.
