The DVD's of "Smiley's people", as well as "Tinker, tailor..." that I have found on the market (Acorn, mainly) are all region 1. Anyone know of how I am to get my hands on converted versions (region free or region 2?). Another, but less preferable, alternative would be good rips in the AVI DIVX XVID format. Grateful for any tip regarding this.

Should have mentioned they are Region 2 - I believe these are cheaper than the same Region 1's - but am wondering how it is that you don't have a hacked DVD player - no one in Europe should be 'putting up with' the nonsense of region-codes - virtually all players can be hacked.
Region 1 folks are in worse shape because even if they can hack - they are usually stuck with the PAL-NTSC conundrum - whereas Euro TV's will almost always play NTSC.
