How times have changed!

I watched episode two last night on TV. I simply couldn't believe the flat that Smiley searched. It was a run down tip. Properties like that in Westbourne Park would now be fetching close to a million pounds and would be painted dazzling white with laminate floors and spotlights, and lived in by City bankers, not old ladies in dressing gowns putting the milk out. Even the place he visited in Charlton would probably be selling for half a million now!

You should check out Performance with James Fox and Mick Jagger from 1971. Set in a slummy run down Notting Hill the rent was something like £20 per week in one of those now very posh exclusive crescents

Ah yes, great film! Notting Hill was a bunch of crumbling tenements with immigrants living ten to a room in those days - you see this also in the old Steptoe and Son episodes.
